Films in Australia ‘Censored ’ By Board of Roman Catholics

MELBOURNE.—Taking as its model j the American League of Decency, the Roman Catholic Church in Australia has decided to establish a special li*m reviewing committee to classify all films and pronounce upon them. This action has received the endorsement of the hierarchy at a special conference in Adelaide. First intimation of the projected work of the committee was given by Archbishop Duhig of Brisbane, when ho passed through here after the conference. The central reviewing body, whoso headquarters will be in Sydney, will comprise laymen as well as representatives of the clergy. Because it will be impossible to review every film that enters the country, the committee will be guided by the classification of the American League of Decency. To make the work of the committee thoroughly effective, it is proposed to extract a promise from all Roman Catholic people, through the parish churches and schools, not to attend films which the committee condemns.
