Wedding of Interest to Manawatu

GLOYN—HILL. A wedding of considerable interest in tbe Manawatu district was solemnised at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Palmerston North, on the evening of February 17, when Esme Ethelyn, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hill, of Kopane, was united in the bonds of matrimony to Raymond Oscar, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Gloyn, “Springflelds, ’ ’ Rongotea. The officiating minister was Rev. R. E. Fordyce, of Sanson, and Mrs. C. Hamlin, Rongotea, presided at the organ.

The bride, entering the church escorted by her father, looked charming in a picturesque gown of magnolia Richelieu satin. The round neck-lino was bordered with georgette on which were satin medalions, outlined with tiny silver beads. The skirt, which flared from the knees to form a square train was trimmed with satin, bead encircled medalions applied to a georgette border. The full sloeves were of appliqued georgette from the elbows. The veil, of beautiful Brussels net, kindly lent by the bride’s cousin, Mrs. M. T. Holm, of Wellington, was held in place by a plaited silver and magnolia band, into which was tucked the sprays of orange blossom worn by the bride’s mother at her own wedding. A beautiful sheaf of liliuni auratum, with maiden hair fern, gypsophila and tiny pink rosebuds completed a dainty ensemble.

The bride’s attendants were the Misses Ethna Hill, sister of the bride, Joyce Gloyn, sister of the bridegroom, and Phyllis Hill, cousin of the bride. They wore frocks of magnolia lace over satin, the skirts being flared from the knees to form a train. Sleeves, puffed to the elbow and thence fitting to the wrist, were ornamented with tiny satin buttons and headbands of plaited pink and magnolia, pink sashes and shoes completing the picture. They also carried sheaves of pink gladioli, sweet peas, gypsophila and maidenhair fern.

Tho bridegroom was attended by Mr. W. J. Gloyn, brother of the bridegroom, as best man, Mr. J. Gloyn, a cousin, and Mr. A. G. Burgess the groomsmen.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at Messrs. Collinson and Cunninghame’s tearooms which had been decorated for the occasion with flowers in pink and magnolia tonings. The square, three-tiered wedding cake, made by Mrs. J. C. McKay, of Stratford ana decorated with flowers from the bride's mother’s own wedding cake, occupied an important place on the bride’s table. The guests were received by the bride’s mother in a gown of brown and gold marocain, with a brown bangkok hat trimmed with autumn flowers. She carried a pretty bouquet of charm dahlias, maidenhair fern and copper beech leaves. The bridegroom’s mother was gowned in navy blue, with hat and shoes to match, and carried a posy of pompom dahlias. When Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Gloyn left by car on a tour of the North Island, Mrs. Gloyn was attired in a nigger brown tailored suit with which she wore a brown velour hat and crocodile shoes and carried a skunk stole and crocodile handbag.

The bouquets were the work of Mrs. Dowrick, of Feilding. A number of the guests travelled long distances to attend tho wedding of this popular young couple, both of whom are well known in sporting circles, and among those who attended were Mrs. W. J.
