BROMWICH’S STAMINA

400 GAMES IN TOURNEY A REMARKABLE PERFORMANCE. John Bromwich, one of Australia’s Davis Cup team, admitted after the recent Australian championships in Sydney that he was a little tired! Bromwich entered four events—senior and junior singles and senior and junior doubles—and reached the final of all four, to win the two junior events. Little wonder that he did not feel more tired, for during the carnival he played 50 sets, of which he won 41, while his games tally reached 442-277 won against 165 lost. The remarkable part of the boy’s performance is that he was hitting the ball with as much power and even greater precision than on the first day, and played with the same heartbreaking patience. He had the vitality of youth on his side and appears to be blessed with aboundance of stamina. However, it is the last time he will again enter four events in a National tournament, as this is his last year as a junior. The record of McGrath and Bromwich in the Ntional singles from the first, round to the final provides interesting comparison: Sets Sets Sets G’mes G’mes Played. Won Lost. Won. Lost. Bromwich 18 15 3 97 57 McGrath -18 1-5 4 107 67
