Housing Plan Promises 234 Houses
COUNCIL WELL PLEASED WITH PLANS OP SCHEME. “I recommend that the council gives its approval to the proposed plan,” stated the city engineer, Mr. J. R. Hughes, to the City Council last evening regarding the plan of the "West End housing scheme forwarded by the Director of Housing Construction for the council’s approval. “The ultimate development will provide for 204 houses with an area reserved for shopping purposes. The street lay-out will involve the construction by the Department of about 90 chains of roading. When more detailed information Has been supplied I will be in a position ito inform the council as to what services ill the way of sewers, water mains, etc., in Park road will be required.” The plan was approved and it was decided that a letter be forwarded to the Director of the Housing Construction congratulating him on the proposed lay-out of the block. It was decided that the council agree to carry out a housing survey covering the whole of the area of the city in terms of a communication from the Director dated February 5, 1937.
