Sound Market for Final Ewe Fair
GOOD DEMAND FOR USEFUL BREEDING LINES. (Special to “Times. s *) HASTINGS, March 5. A sound market with firm selling ruled at to-day’s ewe fair at Stortford Lodge, which is the final for the season. Values were considerably better than those offering at the regular weekly sale last Wednesday. The good inquiry made shows that for useful breeding lines good selling can be anticipated at tha weekly offerings. The top line of two-tooths, offered on account of Mr. W. Kinross While, Omarunui, made 37/9, being the best price made during the greater poition uf the selling. Tho best price for five-year-olds was 25/G for a line offered on account of the Hon. H. A. Russell and off his Apley property. Many of the entries were high-coun-try sheep, which were exceptionally well mouthed and in splendid doing order. These lots throughout made quite good buying. Included in the offering were several pens which havo been running with Southdown rams for the last fortnight and longer. Small-grown two-tootlis were the hardest to quit, especially those which made carry-over propositions. Agod lots, poorly mouthed, being suitable only for fattening, sold as low as 12/-. Tho inquiry to-day was undoubtedly for useful breeding sorts, and provided they were well mouthed the six-year lines sold well. One of the best of these lines was on account of Hawk-* ton Station, which made 22/7. An ep try of Lincoln cross five-year-old? made 22/2. The yarding consisted of 14,000 head, and the principal drafts were on account of Tutira and Moeangiangi Stations. The attendance was much smaller than that seen at the earlier fairs, but tho selling ws«* followed with .Joso interest. Realisations by the respective wero as under:— WILLIAMS AND KETTLE. On account of the estate of jonn Miller, Margnkuri, 74 four, six und eight-tooth ewes, fairly framed and in sound fresh condition, carrying a good fc.'ipe, realised 20/-. On account of Mr G. P. Daseut, Mangatahi, a small entry of mediinagrown early-shorn four-tooth ewes, in rather light order, made 25/9. On account of the Miller Estate, an entry of five and six-year ewes, poorly mouthed, quite well woolled, made 18/5. On account cl Mr Gordon Holt, Fuke* titiri. an entry of medium grown weilwoollod two-tooth ewes, in hard gooddoing order, made SO/-. On account of the same vendor an entry of sound well-mouthed five-year-old ewes, well woolled, brought 20/9. A fattening lino of five and six-year-old ewes, down from Kaiwaka, in poor order, sold at the solitary bid of 14/On account of Mr B. Williams, Waikou, an entry of fair-mouthed five-yoar owes, the best being quit© good conditioned, brought 17/10. On account of Tutira Station, an entry of light in condition six-tooth ewes, which would como away readily on the flats, realised 24/0. Off the same station a small entry of light in condition four-tooth ewes in hardy order and well wooilecl made 24/9. A further small entry from Tutira of four-year ewes, splendidly mouthed ana in sound healthy order, brought 19/6. On account of Mr T. G. Rice, Manga* huruhuru, 132 well-framed fivo-yoar ewes z and carrying a good slipe, brougt 22/-. On account of the Hon. H. A. Bussell, Apley Station, 270 five-year ewes, well framed, good mouths, in good condition, with a lengthy slipe, brought 25/1. On account of Tutira Station, 71 fourtooth Southdown cross ewes, in good condition, brought 19/6. On account of Clareinch Station, 101 four and six-tooth ewes, well woolled and in fresh condition, being in splendid order, brought 28/6. A draft of ' 220 two-tooth ewes, on account of Tutira Station, medium grown sheep, fairly woolled, and in active store order, made 26/G. A line of 392 two-tooths from the previous vendor, in similar order to the previous pen, sold at 25/3. On account of Tutira Station, 245 well-grown six-tooth ewes, in very good order, being a sound high-country line and well woolled, brought 27/6. A draft of 327 six-tooth ewea, ex Tutira, strongly woolled sheep, mixed in the slipe, fair framed, inclined to lightness, but hardy, went at 26/-. A pen of 73 Tutira ewes, five-year-old and upwards, realised 20/10. The Tutira four-tooths, fairly grown sheep, in good store order, met tho market at 30/6 for 150, tho remaining 104 selling at 30/3. A pen of 248 Tutira four-year ewes, well-grown sheep, in good order, strongly woolled, sold strongly at 29/7. A further pen made 2G/3 and 25/- in cuts. On account of Mr P. C. Ashby, Mangatahi, 105 nicely-grown, early-shorn two-tooth ewes, in good sound order, made 32/3. N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE On account of Mr G. T. Kyle, Kaiwaka, 110 five and six-year ewes, ir medium condition, fairly mouthed anc carrying a good slipe, made 18/6. On account of th© same vendor, 71 sound-mouthed owes, a fattening proposition, brought 14/9. On account of Hawkstar and Mangatutu Stations, an entry of mixed-aged and mixed in quality ewes, a good hard-doing lot, made 17/-. On account of Mangatutu Station. 287 full-mouthed ewes, well framed and tn good sound condition, brought 23/1. On account of Hawkstar Station. 295 well-mouthed six-year ewes, in good Mrder and sound, brought 22/7.
Down from Inland Patea. 207 fivefear half-bred ewes, very well mouthed and in good hardy order, were passed at 23/6. On account of Mr David Fernie and down from Moeangiangi Station, 218 early-shorn six and eight-tooth English Leicester half-bred ewes in splendid order, made 24/-, MURRAY ROBERTS AND CO.
