Motorists Fined for Negligent Driving
ONE DROVE BORROWED CAR WITHOUT LICENSE Two motorists were prosecuted before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for dangerous driving. Charged with driving negligently the coroner of Kairanga-Buunythorpe lino and Rangitikei line on January 14, William George Ranson, of Bunnythorpc, pleaded guilty, but declared that he took every precaution, and looked round as ho approached the corner. There was a blazing sun at the time. He put on his brakes when 18 feet from the intersection. Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre said that a collision occurred on the corner, which was a wide one with nothing to obscure tho view. The driver of the other oar suffered a cut cheek. A fine of 40s, with costs- 245, was imposed. A youth was charged with driving in Main street, Palmerston North, in a manner which in view of tho circumstances might have been dangerous to the public. Ho was also prosecuted for driving on the same day, December 27, without a driver’s license in his possesConstable Arnold said that the car had driven past the railway station at a speed estimated at 45 miles per hour. “It appears ho was out driving with a lady friend in her father’s car,” said Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre. “He speeded up to pass a taxi near tho station. Defondant had no license, and although the girl with him had one in her posession, she was not teaching him to drive.” A fine of £2, with costs 10s, was imposed on tho first charge, and a fine of 10s, costs 10s, on the other. Maintenance Orders. Mona Chamberlain was granted an order of 7s 6d. a week against her husband, Merlin Edinborough Chamberlain, of Wellington, taxidriver, in respect of her child. Hector Charles Barkman, labourer, of of Palmerston North, was ordered to pay £1 5s a week for tho maintenance of his wife, Hilda Sarah Barkman, from whom he is separated, and 7s 6d a week for tho maintenance of each of four children. Mervyn Vivian Johnson was ordered to pay £1 a week to Dorothy Kathleen Johnson, .from whom ho recently signed on order of separation, for the maintenance. of a child. Allan William Whyte, a freezing works hand, of Longburn, who was iu arrears to the extent of £7 10s for the maintenance of his wife, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, released conditional on his paying tho arrears.
