Church Tilt at Nazis
Cardinal Accuses Germany Of Breach of Faith SERMON THAT WAS CENSORED. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Monday, 7.30 p.m. BERLIN, Feb. 14. Tho Nazis’ quarrels with both tho Protestant ami Catholic Churches are again critical. The lleich Church Committee established to unify tho three sections into which Protestants hfiTl split, has resigned after a year's fruitless attempts to induce the Protestant opx»osition to abandon its decisions of upholding the purity of tho gospel and condemning tho false teaching of German Christians who are an offshoot of Nazism. Meanwhile, Cardinal Faulhaber, who lias returned from a visit to tho Pope, li-. a sermon, accused the Nazis of violating many sections of the Concordat, including tho confiscating of pastoral letters, seizing church schools and discharging Catholic teachers, detaining priests, sequestrating church funds, banning processions, and spreading a llood of calumnies against the highest church dignitaries. Cardinal Faulhaber’s disclosure that one of his sermons had. been censored, aroused angry shouts from the congregation. Ho suggested the Concordat was signed merely to temporise until the Nazis were ready to destroy all church influence. Ho added the dropping of tho Concordat soverely shocked foreign nations trying to find confidence in Germany.
