Power Plant Purchase
BOARD TAKES OVER OUTSTANDING LIABILITIES (Special to "Times”) HASTINGS, Feb. 15. Details of the proposed sale of tho Havelock North Town Board electrical undertaking to the Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board aro now available in a statement issued to-day by tho chairman of the Town Board, Mr H. R. vow Dadelszen. The purchase price is to be the outstanding loan liability ot the Town Board’s £10,500 redemption loan, and an important benefit to Havelock North power consumers will be a reduction in tariff.
"The Power Board is purchasing the wholo of tho electric undertaking; tho price is to bo tho Town Board's outstanding Joan liability in respect of the £10,500 redemption loan at tho dato of taking over," states Air von Daclelszon. "The Havelock North town district is to becomo part of tho inner area of tho Hawko's Bay Electric Power Board, and tho Town Board is to have such representation on the Power Board as may bo fixed by Ordcr-in-Couucil. "The llavolock North Town Board is unanimously of opinion that a sale should be made at the amount mea tioned above, for the following
"(1) The Power Board undertakes to reduce the present, retail tariffs to tho same as the Power Board country tariff within six months of taking over. "(2) The Power Board country tariff is 15 per cent, below tho present Town Board tariff, and is likely to bo further reduced in tho near future. "(3) It is estimated that if a sale is mado at tho figure quoted the Town Board general rate will bo increased by Sd in the £; as against this, however, it is estimated that fully 75 per cent, of tho ratepayers would «till benefit financially after that rate was added. "(4) The Power Board is prepared to instal ranges on terms; no deposit is required, and purchaso price is to bo paid off at from 8/- a month. The range to be wired free of cost to the consumer, "(5) Tho Power Board is prepared to instal water-heating services without extra cost to tho consumer for an automatic lime switch. "(6) Tho Town Board will bo appointed a cash receiving office, and accounts may be paid at the board’s office as usual. "(7) It is the intention of the Power Board to continue to use the Maraototara plant, with a double throw switch for tho purpose of switching on to Government current in tho event of an Interruption in supply.
