Rifle Shooting

HITCHING (OKAWA) WINS STORKEY CUP (Special to "Times") NAPIER, Feb. 15. The annual shoot for tho Storkcy J Memorial Cup took place on . the Napier Defence Club’s riflo range at Wharerangi during the week-end. This cup was presented for annual competition between memberg of rifle clubs in Hawke’s Bay, and tho larpg attendance at the shoot was a splendid tribute to the late Air E. Storkcy. Weather conditions for the shoot wero fairly good in tho morning but became tricky in tho afternoon. Ranges were 3CO, 500 and 600 yards, seven shots at each, the club standards being 33, 34 and 33. Rifleman J. Hitching and L. Henry, of tho Okawa Club, and J. Hawkins, of tho Napier Club tied with 100 each lor the trophy, and in the shoot-off J. Hitching was the winner. Top score for the day off the riflo wa® registered by G. S. Campbell, he heating F. H. James and R. O. Holt, also with 99, on tho count-back. Possibles were registered at 300 by H. C. Russell and R. C. Holt, and at 500 yards by J. Sim. At the conclusion of the shoot, the president, Air F. C. Wright, expressed his pleasure on behalf of tho Napier club at the large attendance and then called on Airs Storkey to present the cup. Air VV. G. Bryce, of the Waipukurau club, returned thanks on behalf of tho visitors.
