Bradman As Hero
MAN WITH A CAMERA PINED FOR INVADING OVAL ADELAIDE, Feb. 5. English and Australian test cricketers were amazed at the action of the Adelaide Oval authorities in having the arrest made of a man who invaded the oval during the last stages of play in the fourth test match and photographed Bradman. The man was lined £2. Although several of the players offered to pay the amount, he preferred the alternative of spending a few hours in a police cell. The man was Jack Hobson, an English seaman on the Ormonde, then in port, but sailing that evening. He pleaded guilty to a charge of invading the playing area during a cricket match in contravention of the regulations. 1 ‘The only reason why I went on the field was to take Bradman’s photograph; ho is my hero,” said Hobson in Court. “I looked ’ after him and his wife when they came out on the Olranto after Bradman’s illness in England four years ago. He was such a good chap that I simply had to get that picture.” Most of the players were incensed when they learned of ‘Hobsdn’s fine. Allen said: “What a pity that the incident should have' been taken to seriously.” Fames, offering to pay the man’s fine, said: “I think it is awful that such a humorous incident should be treated so seriously.’*’
