CUDDLE BEATEN OUT OF PLACE IN ST. GEORGE STAKES. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrigh t. MELBOURNE, Feb. 13. Aurie’s Star won the Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield by live lengths and broke the Australasian record by a-quarter of a second. Aurie's Star demoralised the held and is described as one of the fastest horses ever seen on the Mo.bourne course. Golden Promise, who gained his best form, won the Bond Handicap, malting amends for his failures in important races in the spring and summer. Viceroy was a close third and Upoko Ariki, who was much fancied, could do no better tnan fourth. Cuddle was beaten out of a place in the St. George Stakes. In this event nothing had a chance with Young Idea in the run home, and Young Idea won easily by live lengths from Hostile, who was disqualified owing to losing a lead bag. Results:— FEDERAL STAKES, .5 furlongs. AJAX, 8.5 (McCarten) 1 Sweet Memories, 9.0 (Dcwhurst) .. 2 Lochlee, 9.8 (Badger) 3 Twenty started. Won by one and a-quarter lengths; half a head. Time, 592 secs course record. BOND HANDICAP. GOLDEN PROMISE, 9.5 (Skidmore) 3 Benthos, 7.7 (Simmonds) ...... 2 Fifteen started, including Upoko Ariki. Time, 2.172. OAKLEIGH PLATE, 5$ furlongs. AURIE’S STAR, 8.4 (Elliot) .... 1 Beechwood, 8.11 (Badger) ...... 2 Phenomenon, 8.2 (Bastian) 3 All fourteen started; Hadrian set the pace on the first furlong, when Aurie's Star took command and Aurie ’a Star cleared right away when heads were turned for home and won by live lengths, with a neck between second and third. Master Motley was fourth, Regular Bachelor fifth and then came Great Legend. Time, 1.4$ — an Australasian record. ST. GEORGE STAKES. YOUNG IDEA, 9.10 (Munro) .... 1 Plymouth Sound, 9.12 (Webster) .. 2 Prince The other starters were Cuddle, Hostile, Prince Sion, Conandale, Peerage, Humorist. Cuddle was in the lead at the home turn, where Young Idea took charge, Closely followed by Plymouth Sound and Hostile. Young Idea won by hall a length from Hostile, who was disqualified tnrough losing a lead a tew yards from the winning post. Plymouth Sound, who was a head awuy, was placed second, and Prince (juex third. Time) 1.502. Cuddle was ridden by McCarten owing to L. J. Eliis' eye injury. Cheque was unplaced m the Salisbury Waiter Handicap and Barnurn was unplaced in the Warrein Hurdle race. ALL NOT WELL WITH CHAMPION LYNCH LAW. TRAINER MUCH PERTURBED. The unbeaten Sydney two-year-old, Lynch Law, may have to bo thrown out of work owing to a severe jar to one of his forejoints, where there is considerable swelling, for which rest will be essential. His trainer, J. T. Jamieson, is much perturbed and is taking no risks with the champion. FUTURITY STAKES ARGUMENT SETTLED. The differences of opinion as to whether Country Party is a maiden and entitled to allowances reducing his weight from 7.10 to 7.0 in the Futurity Stakes next Saturday, were settled yesterday when the committee of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club decided that the horse was eligible to start under seven stone. Should Country Party win, an owner is entitled to appeal or protest to the Victorian Racing Club but such objection will not be sustained. CANTERBURY PARK FORM. Received Sunday, 6.30 p.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 14. At the Canterbury Park races, Sturdee run third in the first division of the Maiden Handicap. Fantan was unplaced in the second division. Odilion was fourth in the Maiden Handicap, Silver Coat unplaced in the Highweight Handicap, Limoux unplaced in the Ashbury Handicap.
