Story of Accused Men Disbelieved
SEQUEL TO POKENO SENSATION Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 13. After a retirement of on© hour t/m jury returned a verdict of guilty on all counts in the Supreme Court in which Clement Robert Lawson and Georg© Frederick Murphy were charged with breaking and entering by night the Farmers’ Trading Co.'s shop at l*okeno with intent to commit a crome, and with having house-breaking instruments in their possession. Murphy was also charged with having gelignite in his possession. The defence was that accused called at the store for the legitimate purpose of securing petrol. Accused*’ counsel, Mr. Sullivan, said that Lawson was wearing rubber gloves for driving, and Murphy had put on a pair as a protection against acid when battery trouble was experienced. Accuaed were remanded for sentence.
