Hull Would Like Some New Zealand Trade
REQUEST TO HIGH COIMMISSIONER United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 7.30 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 13. The suitability of Hull as a distributing port for New Zealand produce was stressed by speakers at a civic dinner in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Jordan. They urged Mr. Jordan to help develop trade. Answering a query as to whether he could give a hint of how the disadvantage of the 25 per cent, increase on the rate of exchange could be got rid of by Britain, Mr. Jordan said that until New Zealand and Australia were on a parity with Britain it would bo useless for New Zealand to lower it. New Zealand was prepared to refuse to accept goods from foreign countries although they were much cheaper. They could get three yards of cotton piece goods from Japan for the price of one in Britain, but they wore prepared to give absolute preference to Britain.
