Paragraphs About People and Events Owing to the voLume of rain which fell in the city on Friday night and Saturday morning, all summer sports fixtures had to be abandoned on Saturday afternoon. <B> <§> <S> ❖ Mr A. S. H. Cutler left yesterday afternoon for the South Island, where he will take up a teaching appointment in Southland. He was farewelled by a large number of well wishers. <3> <S> There was a largo crowd at the Palmerston North railway station on Saturday afternoon, when an enthusiastic farewell was given the Garrison Baud as it left for Nelson to participate in the contest. The City Bund left early on Saturday morning. <B> <B> <s> <§> The concert held in the Regent theatre last evening in aid of families who had lost practically all their belongings in a recent Main street fire, proved one of the most popular that has been staged in the city. It was organised by the Palmerston North Rotary Club whose efforts, aided by the R.S.A. and Legiou of Frontiersmen, wore rewarded by a capacity house. The Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mansford) thanked the artists, Rotary Club, Legion of Frontiersmen, R.S.A., management of the theatre, Screen Advertising, 2ZF Radio Club and stage-manager (Mr. C. N. Rabone) for their valuable assistance. The proceeds of the concert amounted to a substantial sum.
