21st. Birthday Celebrated At Feilding
Quite an important happening to many Feilding young people was the dance given on Friday evening by Mr. and Mrs. Jim Simpson, of Kawa Kawa road, in Jionour of the coming of ago ;of their daughter Eileen. The Parish Hall where the function took place was looking at its best having been festooned with pink and primrose streamers. Tho stago similarly adorned, carpeted, furnished with easy chairs and finished with great jardinieres of pink hydrangeas and primrose flowers also looked charming and made a comfortable lounge for the older of the guests who spent a very enjoyable time playing euchre. A gown of black silk marocain relieved with gold lame lace was worn by tho hostess whose daughter appeared in a lovely model frock of shell pink georgette with godets of lace and a softly falling cowl to correspond. In her hair she wore pink flowers and her accessories were of silver.
Professional musicians were in attendance, extras were played by Mrs. W. McPhail and Air. Matt Reid, of Palmerston North, and Air. Walter Reid was M.C. Miss Eileen Simpson and Air. Ben Cumings were the winners of musical arms and Mrs. W. Huddlestone and Air. I. Sutherland of the lucky Gay Gordons.
There were other novelties including spot and confetti waltzes and a streamer dance and Mr. Ben Cumings was responsible for an excellent tap dance for which he was vociferously encored. Before supper a beautiful bouquet of pink flowers with finishing touches of blue mado by aud the gift of an old family friend in tho person of Mrs. Teague was handed Aliss Simpsou by her cousin, Aliss Freda Reid. Later her grandfather, Air. William Reid, presented her with a gold key and gold brooch set with amethysts and pearls and in a very bright and happy speech proposed her toast which was drunk with musical honours. After her reply Mr. McPhail proposed the toast of Mr. and Airs. Simpson and following the singing of “They Are Joliy Good Fellows” Air. C. Reid, of Kelvin Grove, expressed tho pleasuro felt by his people and their many relatives at tho attendance of the popular head of the family, Mr. William Reid, and proposed his toast that was also enthusiastically honoured. Mr. Reid in gracious terms thanked his nephew for his kindly remarks. Ornamented with 21 candles aud a largo silver horseshoe the beautiful pink and primrose birthday cake made by Mrs. Simpson was much admired. A most sumptuous supper was served and the tables looked especially gay and attractive with their decoration of pink and primrose flowers. Telegrams of congratulation from various parts of Now Zealand and a very fascinating array of presents was received by Miss Simpson, whose happy birthday ended with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
