Rongotea

(From Our Own Correspondent) Complimentary Social On Thursday evening a large number oi friends and members of the church met in the Methodist school-room. The guests of honour were Mr Ray Gloyn and Miss Esme Hill, whose marriage takes place shortly. The Sunday school room had been prettily decorated for the occasion, the social being arranged oy the church choir and the Sunday school, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The Rev. R. K. Fordyce presided over the gathering, and with games, musical items and competitions, the time passed rapidly. Asking the guests of honour to accept a cut crystal rose bowl and sweet dish, the Rev. Fordyce thanked them for the assistance they had rendered in the various departments of the church’s activities with which they had been associated. Mr. Fordyce referred to the fact that Miss Hill's parents, Mr and Mrs J. Hill, of Kopane, had been pupils of the Sunday school. Miss Hill and Mr Gloyn have both taught in the Sunday school and will be greatly missed when the school reopens. Mr. Gloyn© is an active and valuable member of the church choir. Musical and vocal Items were contributed bv Miss Mary Foster, Miss Phyllis Hill and Messrs J. Smith and A. Pedley. A competition arranged by Mrs Hamlin was won by Miss M. Huddleston. The accompanists were Mrs C.‘ S. Hamlin-and Miss Mary Hunt. Supper was provided by the lady friends of the guests. Personal. Friends of Mr R. Young. Kaimatarau, will be glad to learn that his son Duncan who underwent an operation for the removal of his right eye last week, is making a good recovery. Mr Arnold Goudie, of West Shore, Napier, has arrived to take up his duties on the staff of the Post Office. Mr Goudie is a nephew of Mr and Mrs A. E. Croad. Mrs W. A. Davison and family, and Miss Davison, who have been spending a holiday at Paraparaumu, have returned to Rongotea. Mrs A. J. Will has returned to Rongotea. Mr and Mrs Harry Targett and family, of Fukekohe, Auckland, who are on a motor tour of the North Island, have been visiting relatives In Rongotea.
