Delayed Reopening of Schools

POSITION OF TEACHERS. Advice that schools would not open for tho 1937 academic year before Monday, February 15, on account of the number of cases of infantile paralysis and that teachers would not be required to resume duty before that date was received from the Education Department at yesterday’s meeting of the Wanganui Education Board. The chairman, Mr E. F. Hemingway, said that the latter proposal was one that required consideration. Teachers might return to work from infected areas. It would be better to request that teachers should return 34 days before February 15 so that there would be no danger of the children being infected. Teachers were receiving their pay in full and it would be no hardship for them to return to their districts and stand by. * It was decided to send a letter along these lines to the Minister of Education. The monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held in the board’s office yesterday, Mr E. H. Hemingway presiding. Those present were: Messrs M. H. Oram, W. T. BcnelieJd, P. Munro, T.
