Feilding Cricket

RAIN INTERRUPTS PLAY A new series of competition games in the Feilding Cricket Association’s matches were commenced on Saturday. Following the heavy rain which fell continuously on Friday, the wickets were very soft and the outfield heavy. Rain again commenced to fall about 4 o’clock but although the games were continued for an hour it was found impossible to continue and at 5 o’clock play was abandoned for the day. Feilding and Colyton are engaged on No. 3 wicket, the former having first use and when play ceased had lost three wickets for 117. Old Boys batted first against Public Service and have 101 on for the loss of five wickets. FEILDING v. COLYTON. Feilding won the toss and elected to bat, Buist and Dunn opening to the bowling of Fitzherbert and M. Waldin. Both batsmen opened confidently but with the total at 13 Dunn returned one to the bowler. Sugden followed and assisted to take the tally to 37 when, with his score at 16, he hit a full toss to square leg and was out. Fitzpatrick joined Buist and provided real fireworks. Getting into his stride immediately he gave all bowlers a merry time. The total rapidly rose but with lit) on the board he hit J. Waldin into the longfield where H. Fitzherbert held a splendid catch. Fitzpatrick’s score of 64 included 12 fours, two sixes, a two and two singles. Donaldson joined Buist, who had been batting in his usual cautious manner, but with 117 on the board heavy rain fell and play ceased for the day. Details:—
