MOUNTAIN TRAVERSE.—-A successful climb of Mounts Wilczek and Elie de Beaumont was made during the Christmas holidays by Messrs. D. A. Carty, of the New Zealand Alpine Club, and J. Cox and G. Somerville, two guides. The traverse, the first made, was from the west, and Wilczek has been climbed only once before. The photograph shows the two peaks from Docherty's Creek, south of Franz Josef.
