METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE
CONDITIONS IN AFRIOA. IMPROVEMENTS DISCUSSED. All African territories, except extreme West Africa, were represented at a conference of the Regional Commission for Africa of the International Meteorological Organisation which has ended its sittings at Lusaka. Mr A. Walter. Director of the British East Africa Meteorological Services, presided over the conference, which wai attended by experts representing Imperial Airways. Complete agreement on all matters relating to technical methods to be employed especially in regard to aviation was reached. The matters discussed Included times of observations, codes for wireless broadcasts, and information to be supplied to pilots, research officers, etc. The conference will result in the aviation services operating in Africa obtaining meteorological information understandable by all nationalities, irrespective of language. The Services hope, after their resolutions are ratified by the oentral committee and respective Governments, to bring uniformity Into operation early next year. The commission is considered to have achieved a striking success in international cooperation, bringing within view ths issue of a daily 6ynoptio chart for aU Africa.
