Hutchison and Haines, Danncvirke, has accepted a position with tho Dominion Auctioneering Coy., Palmerston North, and, with Mrs. Haines and family, will leave Dannevirko to take up tho appointment in the middle of January. Mr. Haines has been a member of tho Borough Council since tho last election, and his resignation will be the second this year, Councillor J. H. Redfern having resigned in July. Rev. H. H. Jeffreys and Mrs. Jeffreys, of Pukekohe and formerly of Duunevirke, are visiting the district. Mr. R. G. Russell, of the Public Trust Office, Auckland, is spending a holiday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Russell, of Te Rehunga. Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Monefy, who have been staying with relatives in the district, have returned to Wanganui, accompanied by Mrs. L. Mcnefy, of Te Rehunga. - Mr. T. Ryan has returned to Wellington after spending the holidays with his parents at Glengarry. Mr. B. Ashworth, of Wellington, who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Holmes, of Umutaoroa, has left for the south. Mr. D. Defillippi, of Wellington, who has been visiting friends at Tiratu, has returned to Wellington. Slight Earthquake. About 9.45 o’clock on Friday night, a slight earthquake was experienced in Dannevirke. It was preceded by a rumbling noise. The Year’s Rainfall. During 193 G, the rainfall in Dannevirke was higher than the average, being 49.G1 inches, with February as the wettest month. The total recorded that month was 10.G5 inches. The averago rainfall during the past 30 years is 42.49 inches, the highest annual fall (in 1907) was 58.22 inches, and the lowest (in 1931) was 28.42 inches. The total rainfall at Rua lloa for the past year was 70.19 inches, which, though 11 inches lower than the previous, year, is about 10 inches above the During December rain fell on 12 days at Dannevirke and 14 at Rua Roa, compared with seven and nine during the previous December. The wettest December on record is that of 1924, when the rainfall was 10.53 inches, and the driest is that of 1912, when only ,2f inches fill.
