Elderly Woman's Shocking Death

CLOTHING ALMOST BURNED OFF BODY. Per Pres 3 Association. KOTORUA, Last Night. An elderly and single woman named Johanna Cunningham, aged 70, died in the Rotorua Hospital to-day as the rosult of severe burns received when her clothing caught alight from a copper fire in front of which she was washing. Miss Cunningham who was in a very poor state of health, lived alone. Noticing smoko issuing from the house a neighbour asked a passing postman, Mr. Noel Tonkin, to investigate.

On entering the house he found the kitchen full of smoke and immediately gave the alarm. Returning he found the unfortunato woman semi-conscious in her bedroom with practically the whole of her clothing burned from her body. She had apparently made desperate efforts to extinguish the flames out without avail. She died in the hospital three hours later.
