Rival Strike Leaders in Conflict
BRIDGES NOT WANTED ON ATLANTIC COAST. United ’Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Wednesday, 7 p.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 15. Two years’ strained relations between Ryan and I-larry Bridges, the rival maritime strike leaders, reached a climax in a definite break following a three-hour conference. Ryan announced the dismissal of Bridges from the position of organiser of the longshoremen which he has held since May at a salary of 75 dollars a week. Ryan objected to Bridges' trip east to address the striking seamen and accused him of an attempt to disrupt the Atlantic coast organisation of longshoremen. He also complained of his close relationship with Communist leaders. Bridges denied the charges. Ryan stated the dismissal would not affect Bridges’ status as president of 75 dollars per week.
