Women's Institutes

ETJLLS. The monthly meeting was held on Monday, December 7. Mrs H. Ellery presided over a small attendance of members and welcomed Mrs F. Ingrim, a new member. It was decided to hold the children's Christmas party on December II in the evening and in the meantime .Father Christmas is allowing his beard to grow. It was decided to enter for the handcraft and knitting competitions in the institute section at the Feilding Show next month. Miss .Richards gave her report on the halfyearly council meeting held at Palmerston North in November. The competition for the best iced Christmas cake was won by Miss I. Ellery, Miss M. Carter being second and Mrs R. Clark third. Mrs J. S. Tricker kindly judged the competition. M.rs H. Bowen gave an interesting demonstration on hairpin work. At tho February meeting ; the 'compietition will bo for tho best j three d'oyleys. The- Wanganui-Rangi- ! tike! Electric Power Board will demonstrate cold disres with their refrigerator.

Tile monthly meeting of the, Kairanga Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday, December 8. Mrs P. Leamy (president) presided over a fair attendance of members and extended a hearty welcome to all. An apology was received from Mrs W. McClelland (secretary) owing to sickness. Written competitions arranged by Miss Z. Deamy and Mrs D. Clark caused

a groat deal ol' entertainment. The first was won by Mrs A. Divehall, with Mrs F. Cummins second and Mrs L. Clark third. The second was won by Mrs H. Turner, with Mrs Divehall second and Miss G. Green third. Next month’s competitions are to be best collection of vegetables for the seniors and a worked guest towel for the juniors. The next meeting will not be until the second Tuesday in February. Arrangements were made for the picnic to be held on the second Wednesday in February at the Esplanade. A hearty vote of thanks was extended to Mrs E. Mnllett, who presented the institute with four glass sugar basins. Just before afternoon tea, Mrs H. R. Green (vice-president) asked Mrs beamy (president), Mrs McClelland (secretary) and Mrs Clark (treasurer), on behalf of members, to accept a posy each for the work ihat they had done throughout the year. She wished them the compliments of the season. Mrs beamy thanked the members and said anything sho did for the institute was a pleasure. She wished ffiembers a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Mrs Clark thanked the members and said that her work had been a pleasure. This month’s competition, judged by Mrs C. Turner, was won hy the following:—Seniors (iced cake), Mrs G. Davey; juniors (smocking), Miss G. Hyde 1, Miss T. Kligour 2. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Hugb. Mrs Hyde, Miss .F. Doherty and Miss G. Hyde.
