Pupils of Miss Fern Eldred Entertain
DELIGHTFUL PROGRAMME O? ELOCUTIONARY ITEMS
Last evening pupils of Miss Fern Eldred combined to present an excellent programme comprising elocutionary items in a pleasing variety of forms, with, recitations grave and gay, concerted items, musical monologues, a fairy play and dialogues. Throughout the long programme the, pupils acquitted themselves with credit, ..the high standard attained testifying to the inspired teaching they are receiving. No effort had been spared to beautify the large room at Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame’s where the function was held, aud which drew an appreciative audience of parents and friends. Spontaneous applause greeted the performers throughout. Mr. Weldon Whelan made an efficient chairman and Miss Helen Muir was the accompanist.
Most of the items were done in character. The girls in the “Spring Song" were dressed as wood nymphs with garlands of pink and yellow and tho boys were dressed as Brownies, the intermediate pupils in “Priscilla and Peter” appeared in Kato Greenaway frocks with poke bonnets specially mado for the occasion, and carried parasols and dolls. In this item a stork appeared to present the dolls. In all the other character items the dressing was most appropriately carried out. At the conclusion of the programme Weldon Whelan returned thanks’to the audience. Miss Eldred’ also expressing her appreciation, little’ Weslie Whittaker presenting Miss' Eldred with a dainty posy amidst applause. Tho performers were later the guests of Miss Eldred at supper which was a festive occasion on the balcony, bringing a very happy evening to a close. Keefe; “Teddy’s Proposal," Noeline Perrin; fairy play, “The Ugly Box," Pandora, Joyce MeNeilly; Epimetheus, Beryl Crystall; Hope, Adrienne Alien; Fairy Dancer, Shirley Henderson (danco taught by Miss June Scott); “Charm" (musical monologue), Mr. G.
