The executive of the Terrace End Progressive Association last evening passed a vote of sympathy with its secretary, Mr. G. G. Priest, in the death of his brother at Timaru. <s> <S> <S> <*>
The City Council is to be asked by the Terrace End Progressive Association to establish a branch library in the suburb in accordance with the recommendations of the city librarian.
Sympathy with Mr. I. Baldwin, rnnger to the Kairanga County Council, who recently had to enter hospital, was voiced at the monthly meeting of the County Council yesterday, and he was wished a speedy return to health.
There has been a. considerably increased demand for new bicycles of recent weeks, a Palmerston North cycle dealer reported yesterday. Ho added that dealers in other centres -were experiencing the same revival in trade and wholesale importers were hard pressed keeping up the supply.
The Terrace End Progressive Association last evening decided to urge the Government to proceed with a house building scheme for the area of Crown land situated at the end of Limbrick street. It was reported that the Government was willing to build houses there if the people -were anxious to have them do so. . «> «> <®>
“I have thought for many years that the name should be altered," stated Mr. J. A. Nash, when recommending at a meeting of the Terrace End Progressive Association last evening, that the suburb was worthy of a more euphonius appellation. "It is not very edifying now that we have parks and bowling greens." He thought the association might ask citizens to suggest a more suitable name. The recommendation was adopted, the chairman, Mr. F. J. Oakley, agreeing that the present name was not a pretty one.
