Manawatu Golf Club Ends Season

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES AT HOKOWHITU. GOOD CARDS RETURNED IN MIXED FOURSOME. The Manawatu Golf Club closed the 1936 season last Saturday and there was a record entry for the mixed foursome which was won by G. P. Maule and Miss Thomson with a spendid net score of 72. As usual, tho course, was in first rate order, the fairways, and greens being better than ever they have been. The weather was calm, with a hint of rain, and no less than eleven pairs recorded rounds of 75 or better. The big field was sent away from various tees and the last of the play-ers were in in good time. After afternoon tea the players and friends gathered at the club house for the presentation of the trophies. Before calling on Mrs. Moore to officiate, Mr. C. G. Moore, the president of the club, extended congratulations to those who had succeeded in winning competitions during the year, and especially to Mr. John Hornabrook, tho club champion, who had, in winning the New Zealand amateur title, again demonstrated the fact that he was the best amateur in tho Dominion. Mr. Moore also thanked tho course manager, Mr. J. R. Galloway, for his wonderful work during tho year, the secretary, Mr. K. G. Chamberlain, the staff and caterers.

Mr. Lionel Abraham also spoke and during the course of his remarks he paid a special tribute to tho work of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Moore.

Mrs. Aloore then presented the prizes, the principal winners being as under: — Club championship: J. P. Hornabrook; runner-up, K. Glcndinning. Aliddlewcight championship: L. F. Spcechley; runner-up, W. J. Knights. Junior championship: F. W. Petre; runner-up, A. J. Phillipps. AlcLennan Cup: L. F. Speechley and W. E. Winks; runners-up, J. AI. Taylor and A. Ashby. Nathan Cup: A. Snell. 35 Cup: A. Johns. Barraud Service Cup: G. P. Alaule. Alcllardy Cup: W. W. Smith. Druce Cup: J. K. AlcAlanus. Plunket Cup: A. Snell and O. 11. Williams (tie;. Cooper and Rapley Cup: Brian Wilton. Alaunder Cup: I- Robinson. Aloodic Cup: W. AleGillivray and A. Johns (tie). Course Record Cup: AI. R. Aloore (Aliramar).

The caddies’ annual tournament was held last week and there was keen competition for the notable array of j>rizes which were donated by members of the club.

The president (Air. Aloore) officiated at the prize giving and he congratulate ed the successful boys and hoped they had enjoyed the tournament. The leading scores were as under: — R. Howe (golf club) Ist, 85; T. Hood (cup) 2nd, S 5; J. Toon (wristlet watch) 87; K. Niederer (wristlet watch) S 7; A. Gill (wristlet watch) 93; AI. Ivjar (glass clock) 93; B. Alurphy (glass clock) 96; J. Cranston (glass clock) 97.
