Saturday's Comings and Goings
KING’S BOUQUET TO UNKNOWN ADDRESS lveccjved Suudaj', 7.30 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 0. Although some quarters express the opinion that the King's decision may be disciosed on Sunday the Press Association understands there is authority for saying that no definite move ivill be made before midday Monday when the climax is expected. Mr. Baldwin's visit to the King when ho submitted to his Majesty certain documents followed another day of anxious consultations with a continual stream of callers at Downing Street. The Prime Minister after his return from Fort Belvedere summoned a spec-
ial meeting of Ministers at 5.30 pan. on Sunday at which he will communicate the latest news of tho King's attitude. It is not likely a statement will be issued after this meeting. Sir John Simon, who conferred with Mr. Baldwin for three hours this afternoon, returned to No. 10 at 9.45 p.m. Lord Graigavon had a ninety minutes’ conference s witk Mr. Baldwin. He told journalists: "I have nothing to say, but trust Mr. Baldwin.”
Tho Duke and Duchess of Xjfcrk and the Princesses are spending the weekend at the Royal Lodge, Windsor. The King rose exceptionally early and spent the morning in his sfefidy reading the newspapers. He conferred with his staff but took only a short walk in the grounds accompanied by his dogs. His Majesty ordered the gardeners to cut a large bouquet of flowers, including arum lilies, which were later despatched by motor, only the King and his chauffeur knowing the address to which they were consigned. The King, pale and worried, greeted his servants with a grave nod instead of his usual cheeriness.
The Observer says: “There is great sympathy with the King in his painful personal position. His Majesty made
his decision with characteristic courage.” There is little surprise in view of his Majesty’s desire for solitude at the cancellation of the King’s engagements, it being believed that the additional words “for the present” precluded the indication that an irrevocable decision had been reached.
