Cricket Control Manawatu

REQUEST TO AUCKLAND FOR TWO-DAY GAME NEXT MONTH Mr. A. M. Ongley presided at last evening’s meeting of tho Manawatu cricket executive. Others present were Messrs G. Griggs, E. J. Worry, J. Galliciian, It. Warwick, J. It. Ilardie, E. Tottman, K. Olliver, E. Weir, and R. A. Brace (secretary). An apology was tendered on behalf of Mr. W. H. Wilson. Old Boys applied for registration for a number of players and United and Combined Services each to h'avo one player registered. City, also, forwarded a list of players for registration. Tho players were registered as requested. Y.M.C.A. made application for a second wicket in the practice nets, this being granted. Tho Hutt Valley Cricket Association wrote intimating they were seeking representative games with outside teams, and for a match with a Manawatu colts’ team at Palmerston North on Boxing Day. It was resolved to accept the match. The Southland Cricket Association, in regard to their Hawke Cup challenge, submitted December 30, 31 and JaniV.ry 1 as the dates for their game with Manawatu.

Tho chairman observed that two of the days would not suit Manawatu. He suggested Manawatu should advise the New Zealand Cricket Council that the dates set aside for Hawke Cup games were December 25, 26 and 28; January 1,2 and 4, and on dates to include January 22.

Tho chairman added that if the visiting team wished to delay the commencement of the game until Christmas afternoon, Manawatu would meet them in the matter.

It was agreed that the dates be forwarded to the Cricket Council, as suggested by the chairman, also advice that Manawatu, if still in possession of the eup, would play further games in February and March. In regard to the Goldfinch and Cousins cup competition, Mr. Gallichan advised that Horowhenua desired to play Manawatu on December 19.

Mr. Weir voiced the opinion of the meeting when he said it would be suitable to Manawatu provided there was no broken weather in the meantime. It was decided to ' hold tho matter over until next meeting. In view of the chance that the Auckland Plunket Shield team will play in Palmerston North on the way south, it was resolved that the work of re-erect-ing the score board bo expedited. It was resolved to write Auckland stating it was understood there was a possibility of Auckland playing a twoday game in Palmerston North on their way south, and asking if they would meet a Wellington country team about December 21. In regard to the 18 players selected for representative practice, tho chairman moved that tho coach’s suggestion that a practice under match conditions be arranged, be adopted. This was agreed to and December 2 and 9 fixed as the dates. In regard to coaching nights, it was resolved that in future senior B prac-

tices be changed from Tuesday to Thursday and be combined with the junior A. Tuesday evening’s will be reserved for practice for colts, to be selected by Mr. Ongley.
