Japanese 111-treatment of British Sailors in Formosa

INCIDENT NOT REGARDED AS CLOSED BY MR. EDEN. (British Official Wireless.) Received Tuesday, 7.30 p.m. RUGBY, Nov. 23. Mr. R. A. Eden stated, in reply to a House of Commons question, that the Japanese Government had sent an interim reply to his representations regarding the ill-treatment of the three British naval ratings by Japanese officials at Keelung, Formosa.

This reply expressed regret that such an unpleasant incident should havo occurred, and stated that further enquiries were being made in the light of the report of the British Naval Court of Inquiry held at Hongkong. “Pending the receipt of a satisfactory final reply from the Japanese Government,’ 7 Mr. Eden added, “I am unable to regard the incident as closed.”
