Presbyterians Oppose Licensing of New Hotels
IMPLACABLE STAND AGAINST EXTENSIONS. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Proposals being made from timo to time for the licensing of now hotels at tourist resorts were strongly condemned at a meeting of the Presbyterian General Assembly to-day and the following resolutions were passed without dissent: “That the Church’s stand be reasserted for the emancipation of our country from the trade in alcoholic beverages; that the Government be informed of our implacable stand against the extension of licensing facilities whether in cities or at tourist resorts; that the Government be petitioned to apply the 40-hour week to the licensed bar trade; that tho Government be requested to see that a more strict observance of the licensing laws is kept; that the Government bo asked to make temperance teaching compulsory in schools.
