A THRILLING CHASE.

Double Y Ranch. Dear Hub, —We had a day off work so we decided to travel on our horses through a nearby bush. It was about this time that the sheriff had some money stolen. We forgot all our troubles as we set off. The birds whistled and sang as wo entered the bush and the undergrowth was very thick with ferns and other creeping plants. Suddenly! we heard a sharp crack ahead of us. We urged our horses forward into a gallop. There on a clearing was a terrified man running to the trees opposite. .We instantly set off in pursuit of the fugitive, who could squirm between the trees like an eel. We were overtaking him rapidly, but there was a huge fallen tree on the track that hindered us. As we reached another clearing we were just in time to see him run into a deserted woodman’s hut. When we reached the hut he had disappeared. Wo searched in every likely place but we were disappointed. Just as we we giving up I saw a sack lying on the floor and as I lifted it up I saw a trap-door. With an excited cry I lifted it up, but as I heard voices I soon was silent. We cautiously crept down the rotten steps to where the voices came from. Peeping through a crack in the door we saw two men deep in conversation. Something on the table caught my eye it was the Sheriff’s missing money. We drew our guns out of their holsters and pushed open the door. The crooks sprang up, but raised their hands, when they saw our guns. We pounced on them and soon had them bound and gagged.' Taking the money we put it in our pocket and then tied the thieves to our horses. As soon as we neared our ranch house the men tried to break the rope, but lid not succeed. The Sheriff was pleased to his money back and also to see the thieves captured. He gave us ten shillings each and I think it was well deserved. The Two Ranch Pals. Your ride in the bush had a very exciting finish, The Two Ranch Pals. The Sheriff would be very pleased. THROUGH THE GORGE., . . i t- .
