Short Story Competitions “Times” in Search of Liferary Ability Preliminary Announcement Do you think you could write a Short Story? The “TIMES” asks you to try and as an encouragement is offering substantial prizes for the best efforts. Two conditions only are laid down. Firstly, the length of the story is not to exceed approximately 3000 words and secondly, the setting of the tale must be within the Rangitikei, Manawatu and Horowhenua districts. Since white men first set foot on the West Coast one hundred years ago, there has been a wealth of incident that could be woven into vivid short stories and the “TIMES 1 believes there are those who have the literary ability to do it. All stories must be in the hands of the Editor by the end of February at the latest but earlier if possible. For those who think Short Story writing beyond their achievement,. the “TIMES” has another competition. Prizes will be awarded the six best descriptions of some incident that happened in the early days of the West Coast. The incident does not need to have been the experience of the writer. It can be, for instance, something that happened to parents or relatives in’the early days. It must be, however, a description of an actual happening.
