Skins, Hide and Tallow Sales
The usual fortnightly salo of sheepskins, hides, tallow and sundries was held before a large attendance of export tanners and the local trade. Sheepskins. —All sections of the trade were interested, competition being very keen for all grades and descriptions. Wo disposed of the whole of our catalogue under the hammer at prices Id to Id, and at times, Ijd higher than late rates. Halfbreds sold up to I4d, fine crossbreds to 134 d, medium crossbreds to 124 d, and coarso crossbreds to lljd. Salted skins (of which there was only a small offering) showed a slight advance.
Hides.—Spirited competition prevailed for all lots submitted, and we made a total clearance at,auction. Best conditioned parcels were in request, exporters and tanners taking the bulk of the offering. As compared with previous quotations, wo quote heavies Id to Id, medium and lightweights id to gd, kip and yearling fd to Id, all higher. Calf met a strong market and appreciated Id to Id. Weights of l-51bs. sold to 15Jd, 6-Slbs. to 15d, 9-101bs. to ll^d. Tallow. —Better demand, values showing a slight riso on late rates, mixed selling to 22s cwt. The following is the range of prices:—
Sheepskins.—Half bred, 9d to I4d; tine crossbred, to 13id; medium crossbred, lOd to 12Id; coarse crossbred, IOJd to Hid; half wools, 7sd to 12d; quarter w-ools, 6d to 9Jd; pelts, Gd to Sid. Salted at each: Pelts, Is 6d to 2s sd; half wools, to 4s; full wools, to 9s; lambs, to Is. Hides. —Ox, 33-44ibs., to Old; 4552ibs., Ctd to 7id; 53-591b5., 6Jd to 9d; 60-691b5., Sd to 9Jd; 701bs. and over, Sd to 9d. Cow, 33-391b5., 5Jd to 6fd; 40481b5., 6d to Gld; 491bs. and over, 6Jd to 7d. Kip, 25-321b5., sld to 7d; 17241b5., 7d to Sid. Yearling, 11-lGlbs., 9td to llsd. Calf, 9-101bs., to llgd; G-Slbs., 12d to 15d; l-51bs., lid to 15Jd.
Tallow. —In casks and drums, 15s 3d to 22s per cwt; in tins, 14s to 15s Gd per cwt. Sundries. —Cow tails, to 9d per dozen; horse hair, to 21d per lb.
