Warnambool-Melbourne Road Race
McEVOY WINS IN CLOSE FINISH. United Press Association—By Electric / Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 7.30 p.m. AIELBOURNE, Oct. 18. The Warnambool to Melbourne road race of 154 miles was won by the 21-year-old Australian, J. McEvoy, whose handicap was 43 minutes. McEvoy ’s time was seven hours 17 minutes 28 seconds. The Victorians, T. Garratte and E. Gregory, both off 40 minutes, were second and third respectively. There were two lengths between first and second and the same distance between second -d third. Fastest time went to the Victorian, A. Angus, off scratch. His timo was six hours four minutes 50 seconds. Angus won the Australian professional road championship. Brisbane-Sydney in 47 Hours HUBERT OPPERMAN’S NON-STOP RIDE. Received Sunday, 7.30 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 18. Hubert Opperman cycled from Brisbane to Sydney non-stop, a distance of 651 miles, in 47 hours 10 minutes, breaking the record by 45 hours nine minutes. Opperman was so overcome by fatigue that he had to be held up while a laurel wreath was placed around his neck. Tho previous record of 92 hours 19 minutes, was established by Les Ccci in 1926.
