Saturday or Back Again ?

(To tho Editor.) Sir, —There should bo no divided opinion in respect to tho Saturday half holiday; tho merits o£ a continuous shopping week outweigh any argument for a broken week. All the bigger eontres have had it for yours. The majority of customers arc wage earners. They la-day are organised. A forty-hour week has been legislated for. What is tho good of tms if all kinds of restrictions aro to be placed in the way of its operation i Leo us progress and not quibble as to which half-day, but go forward for a full Saturday holiday. Let live days of eight hours be our labour time and the rest of the week our rest and recreation. Let the retailer join forces with tne wage worker and increase the spending power of his real and only customer. This would benefit him more than worrying ovei what half day he should close his shop. Make pay day a suitable day in the week, say, Thursday night, and with a lato Friday night no inconveniences would be caused anyone. The majority of retailers have decided the day, so let us unite and make it a benefit to all.—l am, etc., F. C. ALLERBY.
