Rebuilding of Kiwitea Bridge
RETURN TO OLD SITE FAVOURED.
When a letter from the Feilding Borough Council regarding the prospective reconstruction of the bridgo over the Kiwitea stream on Kimbolton road was before yesterday’s meeting of the Oroua County Council, tho chairman (Cr. A. Campbell) expressed the opinion that in the event of a new structure being decided upon it should bo erected on the old site in alignment with .the main highway.
Cr. A. B. Shannon remarked that it would be an excellent idea to build or. the old site as it would do away With the existing bends in the highway. "Yes," .remarked the chairman, ‘‘the Minister of Transport is anxious to reduce the number of road accidents and this, 1 suggest, is one way in which we cau help. It would certainly obviate two bad bends which have always been a source of danger. 1 think we might reply that we are iu favour of the new structure being erected on the old site, rvithout in any rvay committing ourselves at this stage." The letter set out that the estimated cost of a iicav bridgo was £BOOO, but a uoav bridgo on the old site would involve considerable expenditure in the formation of about 25 chains of approach requiring considerable filling. Tho council agreed to advise the Borough Council of its vierv as to tho location of the proposed new structure.
