Methodist Ladies’ Guild. w rs S E Cowley (vice-president) presided over a good attendance ot members at the monthly social afternoon of the Methodist Ladies' Guild. were made for an effort to be held n No vember. Regret was expressed at the absence of the president (Mrs. H. Berry) who was unable to bo present o\vin o to sickness in her home. Airs. Cowley was the winner of a competition, and a numerous reading by Mrs. Chittenden was enjoyed. The serving of afternoon tea by the hostesses, Al.esdames W. Young, .J. i • Riches and Burns, brought a pleasant afternoon to a close. Magistrate’s Court. Tho quarterly 'returns in connection with the Fox toil Alagistrate's Court for the period ending, September 30, are as follow: Number of sittings of tbe court, three criminal and five civil; number of plaints entered, 30; total amount sued for, £263 19s 3d; number of summonses and other processes served by the bailiff, 40; civil summonses served by registered letter, 5; amount ot" fines imposed, £l9 ss; criminal fees, £3-Is; civil fees, £3- 11s, licensing fees, £1 11s; number of criminal cases against male's, 12; number of criminal cases against females, nil. Husbands Entertain.

A “husbands’• night” held under the auspices of the Foxton Women’s Institute, provided novel entertainment for a large audience. - Air. J. Symon (husband of the president) was elected chairman, and Mr. John Ross, who was appointed hon. sec.rej (ary, read’ a set of minutes which caused much merriment. Following the singing of the ’’lnstitute song,” a debate took place, the subject being “Men Mould Make Good Alothers.” The affirmative was taken by Messrs. J. T. Edwards and V. B. Collins, while the negative was in the hands of Messrs. W. Trueman and C. Watkins. Humorous readings were given by Messrs. J ; T. Edwards and W. Young and a competition was won by Airs. D. R. Barron. A tap dance executed by Mr. E. ■Shortt was-much appreciated and a vocal item by Messrs. Hinds and Watkins. Humorous readings were given by Alessrs. J. T. A burlesque meeting (arranged by Air. W. M. Thomas) of the "Women’s Destitute Selection Committee for the forthcoming Rheumatic Festival” caused much laughter. Those taking part were Messrs Hinds, Collins, Edwards. Thomas, A. K. Alaidens and Watkins and the make-up and activities of the “females” provided amusing entertainment. At the conclusion of the programme supper was served by the men, and before dispersing the president (Mrs. J. Symon) thanked the entertainers for their items and expressed the hope that the entertainment would become an annual affair. Labour Day Attraction.

The Foxton United Sports Association already have arrangements • well in hand for its annual motor cycle sports which are to take place on the Foxton racecourse on Labour Day, October 26. This year the programme includes eight races, in addition to novelty events. Although entries do not close until Saturday, October 10, the secretary already has quite a number in hand. Endeavours are being made by the association to make tho fixture an outstanding success this year, and as far as the riders are concerned, it already appears as if it will easily maintain its past reputation of attracting all the premier grass-track men in tho Dominion.
