Garrison Band Activities

Mr F. J. Oakley presided at a meeting of the Garrison Band committee this week. Also present were Messrs G. Tremaine, J. Creighton, B. Davidson, W. Peterson, W. C. Loudon, J. A. Nash, W. H. Brown, N. McLeod, J. P. Cowliskaw, G. Whitehead, H. Unwin and C. Pike (conductor).

The exchanging of dates with the Health Cainp committee for the band’s badge day was discussed, and the badge day is to be held now at the end of October. The conductor was asked to arrange for a parade oi' the band on the date fixed between 9 a.m. and noo,n several numbers to be played at various points in the Square. A letter was received from the Manawatu. Eugby Union expressing thanks for the services of the band at various matches.

Queen Alexandra’s Own Band (Wanganui) advised that it would pay a return visit to the Garrison Band on October 25 and would be able to supply afternoon and evening programmes. The trades unions’ executive arranging for the procession on Labour Day wrote asking if the band would lend assistance and the matter was left in the hands of the chairman and the conductor with power to act. The conductor reported that he had arranged for accommodation for the band at Nelson at the contest in 1937.
