The Daily Telegraph’s diplomatic correspondent says apprehension regarding the fate of 7000 prisoners and hostages in Madrid is reflected in messages from tne diplomatic corps. The executions of men and women are proceeding at the rate of 50 to 60 daily and it is feared the terror will be intensified as Madrid’s danger grows. Visits to the mortuary are now forbidden, heightening the mystery regarding the fate of the victims. Foreign diplomats are doing all possible to influence the. Government forces to adopt more humane treatment. Although there has been no advance of troops General Franco has begun his push to Madrid by an aU-day air attack in the Santa Cruz-de Retamar sector. Homes have been showered on an eightmile front and an early advance is expected. The battle for Naval Feral continues with unabated fury. Tho rebels despite heavy losses and repeated repulses continue to hurl themselves against the deadly artillery. A fierce battle is aIBO continuing for Oviedo where the Government troops are redoubling their efforts to capture tne city. The Government troops who were taken prisoner iu Toledo are now assisting to clear tho ruins of the Alcazar and adjoining streets. Miners Attack Rebels With Bombs and Dynamite Sticks MADRID, October 6. Reports have been received of heavy fighting at Oviedo. Fifteen thousand miners . flinging bombs and dynamite sticks against rebels holding the centre of the town and heights, who are dominating the streets into which they poured a withering fire from machine gun nests. Insurgents claim that they repulsed tho attack. Insurgents Repulsed MADRID, October 6. The three days’ attack by insurgents on tho key positions to Navalperal, forty miles north west of Madrid, are reported to have been repulsed. Spanish Envoys Cheered at Labour Conference LONDON, October 6. A scene occurred at the Labour Conference at Edinburgh before lunch, when the secretary announced tho arrival by'air of two envoys from Spain. The delegates rose and cheered the envoys, Senor Asua and Senora Isabel de Palencia, who will address the Conference later. Ceding Spanish Territory MADNESS SAYS GENERAL FRANCO PARIS, October 6. The newspaper “Echo do Paris,” Gaceres’ corespondent, interviewed General Franco, who described as madness tho reports that the insurgents proposed to cede portions of Spanish territory to foreign countries in return for assistance.
