At tho conclusion a challenge was issued by Takaro for a return match. <S> <S> <£ Advice was recoivcd by the West End School committee last night from the Minister of Railways that he would give careful consideration to tho request made by the committee and the West End Progressive Association that the cattle trucking yards at tho corner of Church and West streets should be shifted to a situation more remote from a populated area.

The Supremo Court returns, for the quarter ended September 30, at Palmerston North, show that 14 actions were commenced nnd the total amount’,claimed -was £10,387 2s. The cases heard by the .Judge alone totalled eight and those by a common jury, five. Decision was fiven in 13 cases. In eight, judgment was given for plaintiff and in five [for defendant. On tho criminal side | two persons wmre convicted and three ! acquitted. Eleven decrees nisi in divorce were granted and six decrees absolute sealed. Tho Magistrate’s Court returns for the quarter show that 13 civil and 37 criminal sittings were held before the Magistrate, 11 criminal sessions being presided over by Justices of the Peace, making a total of 48 such sittings. In all 300 plaints were entered, the amount sued for being £3799 -Is Id. The number of civil warrants issued was 41, with 40 executed by the bailiff, the number of summonses served by the bailiff being 352. Fortythree judgment summonses were issued and 171 foreign processes received. In tho criminal cases, 234 were against males and 13 against females, with nine against males iu the Children's Court, making a total in all of 256. The fees and fines received totalled £074 11s Od. In the law trust account the total receipts were £224S 14s 3d and the payments £2047 Ss 9d.
