Kairanga

From Our Own Correspondent Tennis Club. Tho annual meeting of the Kairanga Tennis Club was held last week. Mr. H. Turner, president, presented tne balance sheet showing a credit of £3 7s Gd to start tho new season with. The ollicers elected were: Mr. H. Turner (president), Mr. G. Davey (vice-president), Mr. L. Clark (secretary), Mr. D Mildon (captain) and Miss O. Green (vice-captain), Misses O. Green, G. Jackson, Messrs. H. Turner, G. Davey, L. Clark. I. Davey, AV. Harrison and R. Mildon (committee). The opening day has been arranged for to-day. A working bee is to be held to repair damaged netting and general work to the courts. The club had a very successful past season. There were 29 financial members. The A team played seven matches winning six and losing one and the B team played five matches, winning four. During the season tho games for the cups were played off and some very interesting games resulted. The winners were Miss Thelma Davey and Mr. D. Clark. Mr. ana Mrs. H. Turner presented miniature cups to last year’s winners. Miniatures have also been promised for this year. A yankee tournament was held to conclude the season. Silver ferns for ladies’ and men’s singles were also presented during the season, Mrs. G. Carey and Mr. C. Shoerin withstanding all challengers. A danco was held and owing to weather conditions was not very well patronised, the club losing 2s 3d. Misses D. Capp, E. Green, V. Montgomery and VV. Ransom left the club during the season to be married, and their talent will be greatly missed in the approaching season. The thanks of the club are due to Mr. I. Davey for preparing the courts for matches and the club days. Personal.

The friends of Mr. S. Jackson will be sorry to hear he has been confined to his bed with sickness and will wish him a speedy recovery. A five hundred tournament is to be held on Saturday, October 10, and the prizes have been kindly donated by Messrs. H. Turner, O. Collis, G. Davey and L, Clark.
