From Our Own Correspondent. Tennis Club’s Annual Meeting.

The annual meeting: of the Te Arakura Tennis Club was held on Monday evening. Mr. J, J. Hume, president, was in the chair and congratulated the club on Its satisfactory financial position. Mr. Hume expressed the hope that the club would continue to prosper and that many new members would Join up and partake of the enjoyment of the sport. Thanks were expressed to Mr. P. Hansen for auditing the accounts and to all who had worked to forward the interests of the club. The following officers were elected by a good attendance of members: Ratron, Mr. J. Llnklater; president,*Mr. J. JHume; vice-presidents, Messrs. D. Johnston, E. Whisker and A. Buick; club captain, J. Sorensen: hon. secretary and treasurer, D. Lewer; auditor, Mr. P. HanEen; committee, Messrs. E. H. Haythorne, A. Thomas, Miss H. Bennett and Mrs. I). Lewer. Members are requested to roll up for cleaning up day on October 10. The court will be opened for play on October 17 when all members and visitors will be heartily welcomed. The meeting closed With a vote of thanks to the chair. Personal and General. At & meeting of the Women’s Institute drama circle on Wednesday last it was decided to disband for the summer months. . „ . At the Baptist service on Sunday afternoon an address was given by Mrs. Worley of the China Inland Mission. Mrs. Worley, who has been on the China mission fields for 25 years, told many interesting stories of the mission work among the Chinese. Tho work was making wonderful progress. The Sunday school is missing the services of Mrs. C. Houghton, who has been obliged to resign from the teaching staff. Miss AV. Bailey, headmistress of the Te Arakura School, is now on sick leave and expects to undergo an operation shortly. Her friends will wish her a speedy return to health. Mr. and Mrs. S. Sorensen, of Cameron's line, have returned home after a holiday of several weeks in Auckland. Mrs. It. Ritchie, of Kimbolton, who has been staying with Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Haythorne, Cameron’s line, has returned to her home. Miss N. Klink, Pohangina. spent the week-end with Miss Ruth Pedersen, Milson’s line. Mr. J. Whittle, of Cameron’s line, is staying with his son, Mr. Morris Whittle, in the Waikato. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Thomas Miss Dulcia Thomas, of Northlands, Wellington, were week-end visitors to Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Thomas, Mllson’s line. The drier weather is welcome after the sloppy conditions recently experienced. Ploughing and working up the ground for the season's crops is now being undertaken. Pastures are of a brighter tint and are now showing good growth. Some good shows of tulips are to be seen in several of tho district’s flower gardens.
