Marketing Honey

GOVERNMENT ACTION URGED WELLINGTON, Oct, 2. A request that the Government should take over the marketing of New Zealand honey was made recently by a deputation claiming to represent the Dominion Beekeepers’ Association, which waited on the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, and the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash. The deputation, which was introduced by Mr. J. O’Brien, M.P. for Westland,' comprised Miss M. A. Shepherd, of Rangiora, and Mrs C. Dempster, of Kaiapoi. In a statement to-day the members of the deputation said they had asked the Government to take over tho marketing of all New Zealand honey. The deputation claimed that although ! the Dominion output was normally 1200 '.tons, the present arrangements for marketing involved an export of only 500 tons. Tho local market was not sufficiently large to absorb the balance. Mr. Lee Martin said- he would give consideration to tho representations in conjunction with the Minister of Marketing, who also told the deputation that before tho Government could

do anything to assist the industry the producers would have to obtain unity among themselves.
