BRILLIANT WIN FOR GAY BLONDE

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright Received Monday, 9.10 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 5. The second day of tho spring meeting was continued at Randwick to-day in fine, cool weather. There was an excellent attendance and the fast times indicated that the track was in splendid condition. The Veilmond colt Eodborough brilliantly won the Breeders’ Plate. Commencing smartly he drew away passing the half mile and ran on untroubled, passing the judge with a three lengths’ advantage. The lightly weighted Young Crusader made a one-horse race of the Metropolitan. Dashing to the front at the barrier rise ho quickly established a six lengths’ lead and ran home five lengths ahead of the field. Gay Blonde gave a grand performance to win tho Squatters’ Handicap. Running in the last position passing the half mile she unwound a brilliant run in tho straight which carried her to victory with three lengths to spare. Apart from tho effort of Gay Blonde the New Zealanders throughout tho day performed poorly. The jockey Cook who lost the Epsom on a. protest received a measure of compensation to-day by piloting three winners. McCarten was held responsible for interference with Tonga in the Shorts Handicap and was suspended from riding for one month. Results: — SHORTS HANDICAP: SOME BOY, 7.11 (Cook) .... 1 Mark Anthony, 7.0 (Percival) . 2 Koriraako, 7.2 (O’Sullivan) .. 3 Twelve started, including Stretto and II Duce which finished in the rear of the field. Regular Bachelor which was galloped on at Flemington on Saturday was scratched to-day for the Caulfield Cup. Conandale ricked a muscle and is under veterinary care. An effort will bo made to start the colt in the Cups.
