FROM VARIOUS SOURCES.

There wore a number of interesting gallops at Ellerslie on Saturday morning and among the horses sent along against the watch were Mandamus and Aiwai. They were sprinted half a mile and, with Aiwai, a lazy track worker, under pressure over the last bit, they finished on torms in 53sec. Mandamus worked attractively and he appears to have thrown off his recent soreness. The best round of the morning was recorded by Red Manfred, who, with Caveney in the saddle, completed the distance in 2.8 2-5. The last seven furlongs took 1.36 1-5 and the last three 42 3-5. It was a first-class performance and he wont very fast over the first half-mile. Francis Drake was given an easy half-mile, taking 56sec. for the distance. Karl was not required to do his best in a six-furlong flutter, tho last five furlongs taking him 1.8 4-5. RACING FIXTURES. Oct. 8, 10—Dunedin J.C. Oct. 10, 12—Auckland R.C. Oct. 16, 17—Masterton R.C.
