Government's Desperate Stand OBSTACLES AGAINST ADVANCE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, Oct. 2. An important battle is in progress in tho Tagus sector, including the Toledo front, where the Government troops are making desperate efforts to prevent the rebel advance towards Madrid. The Government forces are hastily constructing lines of trenches outside Madrid, and are also preparing masses of barbed wire, concrete and sand-bag strongholds. Franco’s Policy BREAD TOR ALL HOMES LISBON, Oct. 2. General Franco, the rebel leader in Spain, said in an interview: "We aim to establish a regimo favouring the workers and tho middle classes. Every homo must have bread, and those possessing too much must share it."
