Northern Club

OPENS SEASON ON SATURDAY The Northern Bowling, and Croquet Club is able to open its season on Saturday duo to tho fact that its greens are all in excellent order. Already many applications for enrolment as members of tho various sections have been received and indications point to a larger membership than ever. If is Worship the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Mansford, has accepted the club’s invitation to be present and declare tho season open, and Mr. L. It. Bryant of Nelson (one timo president of the club), is expected to bo over in time for the opening. Sister clubs will be represented and intending members are cordially invited to attend on Saturday’ afternoon at 2 o'clock. TAKARO CLUB ACTIVITIES The annual meeting of the bowling section of the Takaro Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club was held recently’, when Mr. 11. Bovis presided over a large attendance of members. Tho officers. elected for the ensuing year were as follow:—Messrs 11. Bovis (chairman), G. Farrar (secretary’); committee, Messrs Wagstaff, Jarrett, Bovis, Childs) Berry, Shelley, Abrahams, Cooksley, JDawick and E. Smith; selectors, Messrs Bovis, Childs and E. ; Smith; handicappcrs, Messrs Jarrett, Cooksley'and A. Smith; delegates'to executive, Messrs Jarrett, Bovis fid Berry; delegates to Manawatu Centre, Messrs Just and Cooksley; club coach, Mr. Tantrum. . It was decided to hold a pairs tournament on Labour Day. Mr. Maurice Abranams offered a valuable cup for competition for the encouragement of the younger members. Mr. Abrahams was tnanked for his generous offer, which tho club accepted. It was decided to allocate the cup for a handicap pairs competition; arrangements are not yet completed. On behalf of the section, tho chairman extended congratulations to Mr. Cooksley’, who so worthily represented the club in a recent visit to Suva. The opening of the club will take place on October 10.
