Master Alan Loveday, Palmerston North's talented violinist, is to play at tko Hastings Orchestral concert next week. A recent report of Alan Loveday's violin solos at the big broadcast charity concert in Wellington stated: “One of tho most pleasing surprises of tho evening was tho return to the Wellington platform of Master Alan Loveday, the eight-year-old violinist from Palmerston North, Who is tho best examplo of a natural violinist iheard in this city for years. His triumph over technical difficulties such as lengthy harmonic passages, pizzicato runs for the left hand, double stopping and facility in the management of dfficult positions, without loss of tone, was rather amazing. Master Loveday played a dazzling ‘Tarantelle’ by Wieniawski, and the intricate ‘Goblin’s Dance’ by Bazzini in a manner that roused the audience to a high pitch of enthusiasm. Then he played in chastened mood ‘The Old Kef rain,’ infusing much tenderness into the double stopped repeat.” PREVENTION OF OLD AGE Many of tho characteristic features of old ago are directly traceable to a lowering of the activities of such glands as the thyroid, pituitary and adrenal. Of these three tho thyroid may be said to be the master gland. Recent researches have shown that the thyroid can bo activated by iodine in a special organic form, which is contained in tho latest scientific discovery, Thyrodone, sold by J. R. Wood Ltd., and other Chemists at i/6.
