Women's Institutes

AWAHURI

Although Wednesday was the day of the big football match—there was a good attendance at tho monthly meeting of tho Awahuri Women’s Institute. Mrs E. Bond welcomed, all members and one now member. An apology was received from Miss E. Henson. Motions of sympathy were passed with the relatives of Mrs Nutt and also with Miss Gouldou in tho loss of her grandmother. Letters of thanks were received from Mesdames Taylor and Mair, also several interesting letters from members of tho Blind Tho delegates appointed to attend the half-yearly council meeting were M Thompson and Miss Matthews. As the monthly magazine is to be posted in futuro a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Miss Moore who has attended to the distributing each, month for the past threo years. Members were asked to bring along suitable gifts to send a Christmas parcel to the lepers. Members were also reminded to plant three potatoes each for tho potato competition. Mesdames Ward and Haythorno aro to be in charge. Final ararngements were made for the concert and dance to bo held on Wednesday, September 30. Mrs E. Bond gave an interesting report of tho group meeting recently held at Te Arakura. Small gifts were forwarded to Misses Bates and Dungey, both members having left the district. Also a gift was presented to Miss ltowlands who is shortly to be married. The demonstration, which was very closely followed, was capably given by Mrs Haythorne on posy making. Tiho results of tho competitions were: Flowers, Miss Pearce 1, Mrs Nicholson 2, Mrs Port 3; spring display, Mrs Nicholson 1, Miss Bond 2, Mrs Ward 3. A special trophy was kindly donated by Mrs Moore for this competition and won by Mrs Nicholson. Plate of gems, Mrs Nicholson I, Mrs Goodman 2, Mrs Christian 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Dyer, Thompson, MacCalluin and Miss MacCallum. A pleasant afternoon was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
